Labia Filler After Weight Loss: Why Everyone Is Suddenly Asking
Labia filler after weight loss is one of the treatments we are now asked about most often. Rapid weight loss changes the whole body, and it does not stop at the parts anyone talks about. One of the areas patients raise with us most often now is the labia majora, the outer lips, which lose volume when body fat falls. Since labia filler was discussed on television by Olivia Attwood, we have had a steady run of enquiries about it, most of them from women who had noticed the change themselves months earlier and had not known there was a name for it, let alone a treatment. Below is a guide to labia filler after weight loss: what labia filler in London actually is, why weight loss causes the problem it solves, and what it costs.
What Is Labia Filler?
Labia filler, also called a labial puff or labia puffing, is a non-surgical treatment that restores volume to the labia majora using a hyaluronic acid gel. The filler is placed under the skin of the outer lips on both sides, in clinic, under numbing cream. It takes about 30 minutes. It is worth being precise about what it is not. It does not involve the labia minora, the inner lips. It is not internal. It is not a labiaplasty, which is surgery that removes tissue rather than adding volume. And it is not permanent: hyaluronic acid is broken down by the body over time, and can be dissolved with an enzyme injection if you dislike the result.
Why Weight Loss Affects The Labia Majora
The labia majora sit over fat pads on either side of the vaginal opening. Their function is protective. They cushion the more delicate tissue inside and keep it covered. That volume is one of the first things to go when body fat drops, and with weight loss medication now in wide use, it is dropping faster and in more people than it used to. Patients describe the result in consistent terms. Sitting on a hard chair or a bike saddle becomes uncomfortable. Underwear and leggings feel different. Some notice friction or dryness where there was none before, because the labia minora are simply less protected than they were. Weight loss is not the only cause. Childbirth, the fall in oestrogen around the menopause and ordinary ageing all thin the same tissue, and many patients arrive with a combination of the three.
What Happens At The Appointment
Everything starts with a consultation. We examine the area, take a full medical history and talk through what is bothering you and what a realistic result looks like. Some patients turn out to be better suited to a different treatment, or to no treatment at all, and we say so. If you go ahead, numbing cream is applied and left to work for around 20 minutes. The filler is then placed on both sides, using a blunt-tipped cannula rather than a needle wherever possible, which is more comfortable and reduces bruising. Most patients need between 2ml and 4ml in total, divided evenly. You will see a difference immediately, but the first week is misleading because of swelling. The result you keep is the one you have at about four weeks. We see you again then, and if a small top-up would improve the balance we do it at that point. In published studies of this treatment around half of patients had a top-up at four weeks, so it is a normal part of the process rather than a sign anything has gone wrong.
Recovery And Downtime
You can drive yourself home and go back to work the same day. Expect the area to feel swollen, tender and slightly bruised for three to seven days. For the first week, avoid sex, swimming, saunas, hot baths, cycling and strenuous exercise. Cool packs over underwear help in the first 24 hours. Walking and normal daily activity are fine straight away.
How Long Does Labia Filler Last?
Around 12 months for most patients. It fades gradually rather than disappearing, and it can be repeated or simply left to go. That impermanence is a feature rather than a drawback. Some clinics offer this area as a surgical fat transfer instead, which is permanent. Permanent sounds like an advantage until it is not what you wanted, and it means a general anaesthetic, a donor site and up to a week off work.
What Does Labia Filler Cost In London?
At Bodyvie, labia filler starts from £1,000 for 2ml. The cost depends on the volume you need, which varies with your anatomy and how much has been lost, and that is agreed at your consultation rather than guessed at beforehand. You will have a fixed price in writing before anything is booked. For comparison, non-surgical labia filler in London generally runs from around £1,000 to £1,650 depending on volume, while the surgical fat transfer version starts at £2,500 and can reach £5,000. Our full treatment price list is published, as all of our pricing is.
When It Is Not The Right Treatment
We would not treat you during pregnancy or breastfeeding, or while there is an active infection or any unexplained bleeding, pain or skin change, which needs looking at first. Concerns about the labia minora are a different problem and often a surgical one. We do not treat anyone under 18. If you are still actively losing weight, we will usually suggest waiting until it is stable. The result will be more predictable, and we would rather tell you that at consultation than after you have paid.
Nobody Minds You Asking
The most common thing patients say at this appointment is that they nearly did not book it. This is an ordinary consequence of losing weight, it is a treatment with published evidence behind it, and our doctors have this conversation regularly. If you would like to talk it through, read more about labia filler at Bodyvie or call the clinic on 020 7100 0744. Consultations are £50 for new patients and redeemable against treatment. We see patients at our Richmond and Belgravia clinics.
