Wake up! 10 Ways to get you up and moving
1) Keep water next to your bed
Dehydration causes us to feel tired and sluggish. Make sure you drink one full glass of water before bed and first thing upon waking to jump start your system in the morning. Keep a glass of water within reach of your bed so you can take sips throughout the night if needed.
2) Do something active
A brisk run or an early morning yoga class will leave you feeling more energised than your triple shot latte. Bonus: the more you exercise in the morning, the more your body will adjust and the easier it will become to rise early and fresh-faced!
3) Find a similarly motivated buddy
Planning early morning swims or coffee dates with a friend can be one of the best ways to get up. This way, you will get to spend quality time with a buddy you would not have otherwise and you will have the incentive you need to get going in the morning.
4) Get enough sleep
It is a simple rule and we have all heard it before, but it bears repeating: go to bed when you feel tired and get your full eight hours of rest. Not only will this help you get up in the morning but it will improve your fitness, help you process information more quickly and result in clearer, younger-looking skin.
5) Strategically place your alarm clock
The simple act of getting out of bed and walking across the room to turn off your alarm will jump-start your day and make you far more reluctant to go back to bed.
6) Cut out the ‘snooze’
You get in the habit of giving yourself an extra 5 minutes and, soon enough, your 5 minutes will turn into 10 minutes, then 15, then 30. Either get up when your alarm first sounds or set your alarm for later because you won’t feel rested when you have to wake up and press snooze every five minutes.
7) Have lighter meals for dinner
Eating a large meal before bed causes your digestive system to run at full speed and keeps you from achieving the relaxed, calm state we all need before we sleep. The best thing to do is eat dinner a few hours before bed and have a light snack (like milk and a banana) one hour before turning in.
8) Plan your day the night before
If you plan your day the night before you will have a clear picture in your head of what needs to be done and the motivation to get up on time.
9) Cut down on coffee
Relying on caffeine can result in you ignoring your body’s natural signs and pushing yourself too hard. It can throw off your natural sleep cycle and cause you to lose sleep and be more tired. Not enough reason? Coffee is bad for cellulite!
10) Give yourself something to look forward to
Plan an activity like a concert or a Bodyvie Christmas Pudding Facial that will make you excited to get up and face the day. The anticipation of the activity will make you far more likely to jump out of bed when your alarm rings!
