Musculoskeletal Ultrasound & Injections
Ultrasound-guided injections

- Real-time diagnostic visualisation
- No exposure to radiation
- Accurate injections, even in difficult areas
In addition to therapeutic interventions, MSK ultrasound offers a specific real-time diagnostic visualisation that cannot be recreated with an X-ray, CT, or MRI.
Bodyvie’s MSK ultrasound and ultrasound-guided injection clinic makes access to pain-relieving injections as easy as possible for patients whilst offering the highest levels of expertise and patient care.
MSK injections are usually recommended when the anatomical location is incredibly small, surrounded by sensitive structures (such as major blood vessels or nerves), or deep under the skin’s surface. Examples of these locations could include the small joints of the hands and feet or deep structures, such as the hip joint.
The benefit of an MSK injection, much like other ultrasounds, is that it does not expose you to radiation and is the safest and quickest way to administer guided injections.
An ultrasound probe is placed lightly on the skin, and ultrasound gel is then used between the probe and the skin, allowing the ultrasound waves to depict an image of the joints/tendon/ligament/muscle and more below the surface of the skin.
Once a clear picture has been visualised, a needle is entered through the skin and is cautiously guided by the live images on the screen.
Very little preparation is needed for an MSK injection. Please inform your healthcare professional if you are allergic to any medications or gels or are on blood thinners. You may need to have your MSK injection deferred or your INR checked before injecting large weight-bearing joints (such as your knee or ankle). You are welcome to eat and drink as normal before an MSK injection.
We perform diagnostic ultrasound and ultrasound-guided steroid injections for various problems and areas. These include:
Ultrasound Guided Shoulder Hydrodilatation/Hydrodistension: Cost £395
Ultrasound-guided high-volume injection for Achilles tendon fat pad stripping: Cost £395
Musculoskeletal Ultrasound Guided Steroid Injection (Joint/tendon/ligament): Cost £250
Ultrasound Guided Barbotage/Lavage for Calcific Tendonitis: Cost £395
Ultrasound Guided Aspiration and Steroid Injection (Ganglion or Baker’s Cyst): Cost £395
Please note:
*The price quoted is for a single body part diagnostic ultrasound scan. If an additional scan is needed, this will be charged an extra £75.
The total price of the scan/procedure will be charged at the time of booking. A full refund will be issued for cancellations 48 hours before the appointment. Please contact us as soon as possible if your circumstances change and you wish to cancel your appointment.
Suppose you have booked an ultrasound-guided steroid injection/procedure; after consultation, this is considered unnecessary or not recommended. In that case, you will be only charged for a diagnostic ultrasound scan examination (£135).
It would be best if you had a referral for a diagnostic ultrasound scan or an ultrasound-guided injection/procedure before your consultation at the Musculoskeletal Ultrasound and Injections clinic. This can be arranged by your physiotherapist, GP or a hospital specialist (like an orthopaedic surgeon).
A minimum of 3 months gap is required if you are booking a repeat steroid injection into the same body part.
