Bodyvie offers vaginal ring pessary fitting and refitting with Dr Weber’s years of expertise to manage the discomfort of vaginal prolapse. The vaginal pessary acts as scaffolding to support the vaginal wall when it has been affected by pregnancy and childbirth, regular heavy lifting, weight gain, menopause and more, causing prolapse.
Vaginal prolapse is a common condition with one-third of women experiencing some mild to severe prolapse symptoms. Vaginal prolapse can be very uncomfortable as it is caused by the vagina or another pelvic organ slipping out of position which can occur during pregnancy, childbirth and menopause.
There are two types of pessaries and we offer the vaginal ring pessary at Bodyvie. The most common vaginal pessary is the ring pessary which offers support and structure to the vagina to provide relief and comfort from the prolapse. The ring pessary can be used for all stages of pelvic organ prolapse. The Gellhorn pessary is commonly used for space-filling as it has a broad base and comes in different lengths to suit most women.
Prolapse pessaries are made with medical-grade silicone and should be replaced every 4-6 months.
At your appointment, you will be measured for the best-sized pessary to ensure the most comfort possible. Dr Weber will confirm your pessary is the right size and in the right position so you won’t be able to feel it and you’ll be able to continue your normal activities after your appointment. With Dr Weber’s vast experience as a GP, you will be in safe hands and this includes providing any adjustments after your initial pessary fitting at your follow-up appointment with Dr Weber.
Vaginal pessaries are a great option for women experiencing vaginal or pelvic organ prolapse. For women waiting for surgery, a pessary is a non-invasive option to reduce pain and discomfort from prolapse, alongside pelvic floor exercises. A pessary can also help minimise stress urinary incontinence, the leaking of the bladder when coughing, laughing or exercising and incontinence experienced in pregnancy.
At your initial consultation, Dr Weber will listen to your symptoms and concerns, share how the pessary insertion works, what to expect before and after the pessary fitting and provide quality care with a post-insertion follow-up.
With ring pessary insertions being less of an urgent priority on the NHS, Bodyvie offers a quicker and more immediate appointment time to suit your schedule to reduce the discomfort of vaginal prolapse as soon as possible.
You will only need one appointment every 4-6 months to replace the vaginal ring pessary. Follow-up appointments can be made if you pessary does not fit well after a week’s use.
Dr Weber will ensure the size of the pessary is correct and check for any infection at each appointment before inserting a new pessary for optimal health and comfort.
You will experience relief as soon as you have your pessary fitted. If you feel some discomfort during the first week after your fitting, we advise scheduling a follow-up appointment with Dr Weber for any adjustments.
