The thin elasticity of the skin means it can be one of the first to be affected by the ageing process. Until recently, the only option for giving a new and lifted lease of life to the eyelid area was to go under the knife. Then, in 2017 came PlexR, a non-surgical alternative to surgical eyelid procedures, also commonly called non-surgical blepharoplasty.

In a society that values looking refreshed, healthy, and revitalised, Plexr treatment is a welcome arrival to the non-surgical aesthetics space. Radical forms of eye lift surgery have significantly reduced over the past decade as patients become more educated about cosmetic and non-surgical procedures.

How do droopy eyelids contribute to ageing the face?

The eye area is the most expressive part of the face. When the eyelids begin to droop, this can take away from the emotion and vitality emanating from the eye region. As well as contributing towards facial ageing, drooping eyelids can inadvertently make a person appear fatigued or sad (even if they aren’t!).

What is PlexR treatment?

PlexR is a shortened version of ‘plasma exeresis’ a device which uses plasma to lift and tighten eyelid skin. Plasma is found all around us in bolts of lightning, static sparks, and plasma ball lights (if you’re old enough to remember these from the 1990s!).

PlexR treatment is a non-surgical eye lift delivered with a small device that interacts with skin tissue to vaporise it. The minor burns left on the skin trigger a healing response within the body that communicates the need for the skin to make new collagen. This thickens and lifts the skin.

There is no heat damage associated with PlexR treatment as it does not cause heat conduction on the outer layers of your skin, making it a safe treatment for the delicate skin on the eyelids. There is also no risk of scarring, which is an occupational hazard of surgery – even if only minor lifting is being carried out, you will still be left with a scar that will need to be covered up by the surgeon.

What are the full benefits of PlexR treatment?

PlexR can correct several age-related changes in the eye area, such as:

  • Drooping eyelids and skin folds.
  • Under-eye wrinkles.
  • Crow’s feet.
  • Large fat deposits under the upper eyelift.
  • Reverse botched or unsuccessful blepharoplasty surgery.
  • Skin tags and warts.
  • Pigmented areas such as age spots and sun legions.

The treatment results are permanent, though it won’t prevent the effects of natural ageing and lifestyle choices from causing the skin to droop and lose its collagen and elasticity in the future (in the same way that fat-dissolving cannot prevent future weight gain).

Your practitioner here at Bodyvie can indicate if/when to have top-up treatments depending on the condition of your skin, your age, and your lifestyle.

I was hesitant about going under the knife for eyelid surgery, but PlexR offered a non-surgical alternative that delivered incredible results. My eyelids are lifted, my skin is tighter, and I look and feel years younger.
