Michelle Green’s blog, ‘Fifty and Fab’ offers an open and honest recording of her experiences as she finds the best treatments and lifestyle tips for women experiencing menopause.

During this most recent visit, Michelle spoke with Bodyvie’s medical director, Dr Andrew Weber, about collagen loss during menopause, and after Dr Weber’s recommendation, Michelle tried Profhilo to share how she restores the quality of her skin affected by the decrease of oestrogen due to menopause for ‘Fab and Fifty’.

Profhilo is an injectable made with hyaluronic acid, but unlike dermal fillers, which are like a gel, Profhilo has a viscosity similar to water and disperses beneath the skin to deliver moisture. It is injected in 10 points of the face to disperse evenly.

The filtered hyaluronic acid has a tightening effect of lessening the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles to give a refreshed and glowing appearance.

“Dr Weber cleaned my skin and then injected the Profhilo in the five locations – either side closer to my ears, then my laughter lines, chin and below my eyes, above my cheeks.  It does hurt a bit, like a stinging sensation – but it is very quick and let’s face it, anything that works isn’t going to be easy.  I had no visible signs of the injections after the treatment although Dr Weber explained I might get some mild swelling at the injection site, like a small spot, I didn’t.”

You may be asking how Profhilo has anything to do with menopause…

When you start the transition into menopause, your levels of oestrogen decline dramatically. Oestrogen is vital for the production of collagen and elastin, which keep your skin plump and strong.

As oestrogen decreases, skin becomes thinner and loses its volume contributing to the appearance of ageing. Profhilo helps to fill the skin with moisture, boosts facial volume subtly, and stimulates collagen production.

“I have seen a significant improvement in radiance and my lines are less deep.  I also feel there is more glow to my skin quality.  I have swapped to a lighter [weighted] foundation as a result.”

For initial treatment, we recommend having two treatments spaced 4 weeks apart for the best results. Because Profhilo diffuses under the skin and has small molecules compared to dermal fillers, which are like a gel, the result is subtle and effective, hydrating your skin and stimulating collagen production.
