Depending on the extent of sun damage to the skin, recommended treatments might include Laser IPL treatment or Fraxel; however, we recommend patients start on topical skincare, including Obagi-C Rx System and Obagi Nu-Derm System.

These physician-dispensed, pharmaceutical-grade home-treatment protocols provide the skin with safe, effective, and tested lightening agents, including Vitamin C & Hydroquinone.

Discover Obagi

We have learned that when treating skin conditions, including pigmentation, with lasers and IPL, we can minimise risk using skincare products. We closely work with all patients using Obagi Systems to control and monitor any pigmentary change. All pigmentation treatments are carried out by our doctors in safe, experienced, and medical hands.

Not all sun damage is visible, so we use the Visia Digital Skin Analysis photo station to take infrared imaging of both the surface and sub-surface skin layers. This allows us to treat pigmentation that has not yet reached the surface of the skin.

Before and after pictures will be taken by your Bodyvie physician pre-treatment, during the course and at the end of your treatment to show improvement and progress.

The Obagi-C Rx kit is a ‘kind’ introduction to the skin when treating pigmentation. Not only can we reduce the pigmentation, but patients will also benefit from other characteristics of this high-potency anti-oxidant.

Vitamin C helps fight the signs of ageing, hydrates the skin, and provides a pronounced toning and firming effect. This means that as well as lightening ‘dark spots’, we can improve the skin tone and texture whilst also preventing further damage.

We usually recommend the Obagi Nu-Derm System for more stubborn hyperpigmentation and advanced photodamage. The main difference is that the Obagi Nu-Derm System uses pharmaceutical-grade Vitamin A (Retinol) rather than Vitamin C.

The Obagi Nu-Derm System is more aggressive than Obagi-C Rx. At the start of the course, the skin may become red and flakey – this is a normal response that we expect. This exfoliating (caused by increased cell turnover catalysed by Vitamin A) helps treat the pigmentation.

Typically any downtime will last for 7-14 days, following which the skin will normalise and at 18-24 weeks, the skin will be transformed and glowing. The duration of use will differ depending on the initial extent of sun damage presented, but we assume it will be a minimum of 4 skin cycles (each skin cycle is 6 weeks but is shortened by Vitamin A), 24 weeks.

Lack of sun during the autumn and winter months plays a great advantage and makes this the perfect time to treat sun damage that has been building up cumulatively over the years.
