Why weight loss changes this area
Labia filler, also known as a labial puff, restores lost volume to the labia majora using a hyaluronic acid gel. It is a non-surgical treatment performed in clinic under topical anaesthetic and takes approximately 30 minutes.
The labia majora overlie fat pads either side of the vaginal opening. Their function is protective: they cushion the tissue within and keep it covered. This volume is among the first to reduce when body fat falls, and the increasing use of weight loss medication means the change is now seen more frequently and more rapidly.
Patients commonly report discomfort when sitting or cycling, an altered feel under clothing, and friction or dryness where the labia minora are less well protected than previously. In other cases the concern is aesthetic rather than symptomatic.
Weight loss is not the only cause. Childbirth, the fall in oestrogen around the menopause and normal ageing all thin the same tissue, and many patients present with a combination of factors.
Who it suits
- Volume loss in the labia majora following significant or rapid weight loss
- Loss of volume or skin laxity following pregnancy and childbirth
- Tissue thinning around and after the menopause
- Discomfort from friction, or when sitting, cycling or exercising
- Asymmetry between the two sides
What the treatment involves
All patients are assessed at consultation. We examine the area, take a full medical history and discuss your concerns and the result that can realistically be achieved. Where a different treatment is more appropriate, or where no treatment is indicated, we will advise accordingly.
Topical anaesthetic is applied and left for approximately 20 minutes. Filler is then placed into the labia majora on both sides, using a blunt-tipped cannula in preference to a needle to improve comfort and reduce bruising. Most patients require between 2ml and 4ml in total, divided evenly between the two sides.
A change is visible immediately, although swelling during the first week means the final result should be assessed at approximately four weeks. Patients are reviewed at that point and a small top-up is performed if it would improve symmetry or volume. In published studies of this treatment, approximately half of patients received a top-up at four weeks.
A hyaluronic acid filler formulated for this area is used rather than the softer gels used in facial treatment. A firmer, more supportive gel is required because the treatment is structural, replacing lost volume in tissue subject to constant pressure and movement.
Hyaluronic acid occurs naturally in the body and is broken down over time. It is the only filler group that can be dissolved with an enzyme injection, and that reversibility is the reason it is used here in preference to a permanent product. The filler and the volume required are determined at consultation.
The fillers we use are CE-marked medical devices, bought through recognised UK pharmacy wholesalers. More on where our product comes from.
Risks
Bruising, swelling and tenderness are expected and usually resolve within a week. Less commonly there may be lumpiness, asymmetry requiring a top-up, or a small collection of blood beneath the skin. Infection is uncommon and treatable. Very rarely, filler placed anywhere in the body can compromise a blood vessel, which is why this treatment is performed by a doctor using a cannula.
Please contact the clinic if you develop pain that increases rather than settles, spreading redness, a temperature, or any change in skin colour at the treated site.
The result is not permanent. It resolves gradually over approximately 12 months and may be repeated. Surgical fat transfer to the same area is offered elsewhere and is permanent, but requires a general anaesthetic, a donor site and up to a week away from work.
TREATMENT PRICES
| Treatment | Price From | Units |
|---|---|---|

The cost depends on the volume of filler you need, which varies with your anatomy and how much volume has been lost. That is agreed at your consultation, not before, and you will have a fixed price in writing before anything is booked.
what our clients say
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Topical anaesthetic is applied before treatment. Most patients report a sensation of pressure rather than pain. In published studies of this treatment, discomfort was rated below 3 out of 10.
Approximately 12 months in most patients. The effect reduces gradually rather than ending abruptly, and treatment may be repeated.
Filler is placed in the labia majora only. It is not placed internally and does not involve the clitoris or vaginal canal. Published studies of this treatment report improvements in day-to-day comfort. Sexual activity should be avoided for one week following treatment.
Treatment is possible, but the result is more predictable once weight is stable. Where weight loss is ongoing, we generally advise waiting.
No. Labiaplasty is a surgical procedure that removes tissue, usually from the labia minora. This treatment adds volume to the labia majora and is non-surgical.
Yes. Hyaluronic acid can be dissolved with an enzyme injection.
Patients may drive home and return to work the same day. Swelling, tenderness and mild bruising are expected for three to seven days. Cool packs applied over underwear are helpful during the first 24 hours. Sexual activity, swimming, saunas, hot baths, cycling and strenuous exercise should be avoided for seven days. Walking and normal daily activity may be resumed immediately.
We do not treat during pregnancy or breastfeeding, in the presence of active infection, or where there is unexplained bleeding, pain or a change in the skin, which requires assessment first. Concerns relating to the labia minora are a separate matter and often surgical. We do not treat anyone under 18. Where consultation indicates a cause other than volume loss, patients can be referred internally to our private GP or dermatology services.
