Confirmed after consultation
A Vampire Facial is a regenerative skin treatment that combines microneedling with PRP, or platelet-rich plasma. It uses a small amount of your blood to aid the body’s natural healing process.
At Bodyvie, this treatment is used by patients who want to improve the texture of their skin, dullness, fine lines or early signs of ageing, and the results are gradual and natural-looking. Treatment always starts with a consultation to see if it is suitable for your skin.
Why the treatment uses your own plasma
PRP is obtained from a small amount of your own blood. The sample is processed to extract the platelet-rich plasma, which contains growth factors that are important for healing and tissue regeneration.
During a Vampire Facial, this plasma is spread on the skin after microneedling. PRP can work with the skin’s natural response through the microchannels created by microneedling.
It does not add volume or change facial structure. It is designed to improve the quality of the skin and to make it look healthier over time.
Skin concerns it may help improve
A Vampire Facial may be considered for patients who want a fresher, smoother skin appearance without injectables such as fillers. It may be suitable for:
- Dull or tired-looking skin
- Uneven texture
- Enlarged-looking pores
- Fine lines
- Mild acne scarring
- Early skin ageing
- Reduced skin radiance
It depends on the type of skin you have, your medical background and the problem being dealt with. It may not be suitable at the time of treatment due to active acne, some skin conditions or some medical factors.
Your preparation before treatment
Your health care practitioner will evaluate your skin and discuss your key concerns prior to treatment. We will also be asking you about your medical history, medication, previous treatments and any skin sensitivity.
This will help us to know if a Vampire Facial is suitable and if your skin needs to be prepped before treatment. Sometimes Bodyvie may suggest delaying treatment or choosing an alternative skin treatment.
What happens on the day
A small blood sample is taken and processed to make the PRP. In the meantime your skin is cleaned and a numbing cream is usually put on.
Then the controlled device is used for microneedling over the treatment area. The PRP is used during or after microneedling to support the skin’s repair response.
The treatment is generally well tolerated but the skin may feel warm, tight or sensitive afterwards.
The first stage of healing
The usual side effects of a Vampire Facial include redness of the skin, similar to a light sunburn. Also you may feel warmth, tightness, sensitivity, dryness or slight swelling. These effects generally go away within a few days.
Your practitioner will tell you how to look after your skin during this time. You may be advised to stay out of make-up, active skincare, heat, swimming, intensive exercise and direct sun exposure for a short while.
How the skin changes afterwards
Normally the skin does not change immediately. Skin improvement is a gradual process. Skin repairs itself and renews itself. Some patients appreciate the early freshness once the redness settles, and texture and tone may improve over a number of weeks.
Depending on your skin concern and treatment goals a course of treatments may be recommended. Results vary from person to person and depend on skin condition, age, lifestyle and after-care.
Medical points to consider
A Vampire Facial is generally well tolerated but side effects may include redness, swelling, bruising, sensitivity, dryness, infection, pigmentation changes or uneven response.
PRP uses your own blood so you need to be suitable to have it. Before treatment your practitioner will explain the potential risks, benefits and alternatives to you.
