Cheek enhancement is a non-surgical injectable treatment used to improve shape and support through the mid-face. It can help patients who feel their cheeks have become flatter, less defined or less balanced with the rest of the face.
At Bodyvie, cheek enhancement is planned carefully after assessment. The aim is not to make the cheeks look obvious or overfilled, but to support natural facial proportions in a measured way.
How the cheek area changes over time
Gradually, the cheek area can start to lose volume and definition. This can happen due to ageing, facial fat changes, less skin firmness or natural facial structure.
When the cheeks fall, the face can look tired or less supported. In some cases, less support in the mid-face can also make the lower face look heavier.
Cheek augmentation is done with a dermal filler to restore specific support areas. The injection pattern is not set, but instead designed to fit the contours of your face.
Facial balance before volume
Good cheek enhancement is more than just filler. It’s about knowing where to support and how the cheeks connect to the eyes, temples, nose, lips and jawline.
Some patients require only a small amount of filler. Some will need to work up to treatment. Bodyvie will review what’s realistic and if cheek filler is suitable for the look you’re after.
Signs cheek filler may help
Cheek enhancement may be considered if you are concerned about:
- Cheeks that look flatter than before
- Reduced definition in the mid-face
- Mild volume loss linked to ageing
- Facial tiredness caused by loss of support
- Slight imbalance between both sides of the face
- A desire for subtle contour without surgery
Suitability is confirmed during consultation. If another approach would be safer or more effective, this will be explained.
Who performs your treatment. All injectable treatments at Bodyvie are carried out by our GMC-registered doctors: Dr Andrew Weber (GMC 2693226), Dr Vadim Corjos (GMC 7822977) and Dr Dara Suite (GMC 7130257). Every treatment begins with a face-to-face consultation with the doctor who will be treating you.
The fillers we use are CE-marked medical devices, bought through recognised UK pharmacy wholesalers. More on where our product comes from.
Your consultation and treatment plan
Your practitioner will look at your face, from the front and side. We will look at the structure of your cheek bones, skin type, facial balance and previous procedures you have had.
We will also look at your medical history prior to recommending any injectable treatments. This allows us to assess the appropriateness of dermal filler and the placement.
You will be given a clear explanation of the treatment plan before you decide whether to go ahead.
The injection appointment
Prior to treatment the skin is cleansed. You can apply some numbing cream to make the appointment more comfortable.
This is followed by the careful placement of dermal filler at selected points in the cheek area using a fine needle or cannula. The procedure depends on your anatomy and the treatment plan you agree upon.
The appointment is usually straightforward and you can normally leave the clinic soon after treatment.
Aftercare in the first week
Cheek enhancement can result in swelling, redness, tenderness or bruising. The area can also feel a little firm as the filler sets in.
You may be advised to avoid pressure on the treated area, strenuous exercise, alcohol, saunas, facial massage and active skin care for a short period. Most of the side effects are mild and improve over the next few days.
When the result becomes clearer
There is usually an immediate change after treatment but that is not the final result. You may see a little fullness in the cheeks initially due to mild swelling.
Usually the result settles over one to two weeks. At this point the cheeks should appear more supported and better balanced with the rest of the face.
The length of the result depends on the filler used, the area of treatment, metabolism and lifestyle.
Possible risks
Cheek filler is a medical aesthetic procedure and it carries risks. These could include swelling, bruising, tenderness, lumps, asymmetry, infection, vascular complications or an unsatisfactory result.
Before treatment, all risks and options are discussed so you can make an informed decision.
